Is my blood pressure so high that its time to go to the emergency room?
If your top number ever goes above 180, this may be an emergency situation. Are you having any of the following symptoms?
  1. Severe chest pain
  2. Shortness of breath
  3. Sudden numbness or weakness
  4. Severe headache accompanied by:
  5. blurred vision or confusion; or nosebleed
  6. Back or neck pain
  7. Nausea/vomiting
  8. Severe anxiety
  9. Difficulty speaking
  10. Seizures
If the answer is YES, call 9-1-1 immediately or have friends or family transport you to the nearest emergency room. On the way, if you can make contact with your cardiologist and alert them you are going to the hospital, do it! If the answer is NO (you are NOT experiencing any symptoms), either go to the emergency room or call your physician immediately.
