Lower your blood pressure, by cutting out the salt. Here’s how.

Lower your blood pressure, by cutting out the salt. Here’s how.
  • Choose fresh foods whenever possible. If you must use canned foods, go for only those labeled reduced, low, or no sodium.
  • Use herbs and spices instead of salt wherever possible.
  • Beware of the “Salty Six:”
    1. Breads and rolls;
    2. Canned soups;
    3. Cold cuts and cured meats;
    4. Pizza;
    5. Processed poultry (with added sodium, such as pre-seasoned fillets and chicken nuggets);
    6. Burgers from fast-food restaurants.
  • Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts
  • Reduce consumption of alcohol: this means no more than two drinks per day for men and one for women.
