Lower your blood pressure, by cutting out the salt. Here’s how.

- Choose fresh foods whenever possible. If you must use canned foods, go for only those labeled reduced, low, or no sodium.
- Use herbs and spices instead of salt wherever possible.
- Beware of the “Salty Six:”
- Breads and rolls;
- Canned soups;
- Cold cuts and cured meats;
- Pizza;
- Processed poultry (with added sodium, such as pre-seasoned fillets and chicken nuggets);
- Burgers from fast-food restaurants.
- Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts
- Reduce consumption of alcohol: this means no more than two drinks per day for men and one for women.
